Story
Knecht Ruprecht first appeared in German folklore as a stern companion to Saint Nicholas. While St. Nick delivered gifts to good children, Ruprecht punished the naughty with switches or coal. Often dressed in dark robes and carrying a staff or sack, he served as a reminder that good behavior was rewarded—but mischief had consequences during the holiday season.
